Western Norway University of Applied Science (HVL) is one of the largest higher education institutions i Norway, with approximately 16 000 students and 1 400 staff spread across five campuses in Bergen, Sogndal, Førde, Stord and Haugesund. The new institution was formed January 1 2017, merging the city collages of Bergen, Sogn og Fjordane, Stord and Haugesund.
Their ambitions is to build stronger and more solid academic and research environments who will interact both nationally and internationally. HVL aims to become a visible actor on the international higher education arena through increased international cooperation and engagement in externally funded projects within education and research.
The institution offers a broad range of programmes at Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD levels. HVL has a strong and innovative academic profile within the areas such as health and social care, engineering and maritime subjects, education, economics and leadership. Students at undergraduate and postgraduate level have access to high quality exchange opportunities abroad and staff-mobility is be encouraged.
